Health Professional Leadership Academy
The Health Professional Leadership Academy (HPLA) is a competitive program to build future leaders of pharmacy. It is an intensive, self-reflective experience where participants acquire self-awareness to be respected team managers, collaborative healthcare partners and influential pharmacy industry leaders. The program consists of eight two-hour webinars, home study, and a day at the Michigan Pharmacists Association Annual Convention & Exposition.
Developed in 2012, with more than 100 graduates, the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation (MPF) is committed to continuing the development of leaders to advance the profession of pharmacy.

Why should I apply? What will I learn and how will I grow?
Content modules cover:
- What is Leadership?
- Who you are as a leader?
- Behavior and culture,
- Effective communications,
- Building teams and leading others
Each participant completes a DiSC personality style assessment and an Agile emotional intelligence assessment. They engage in group activities to practice crucial conversations, acquire new skills, and discuss difficult topics requiring introspection and personal growth.
Content is aligned with the ACPE standards and participants receive 30 CEUS upon completion of the program. Space is limited so the selection process is competitive.

Healthcare professionals from all practice environments are welcome to apply. Space is limited so the selection process is competitive.
To apply for the 2024-2025 HPLA Class, please complete and return 2024 HPLA application form by September 9th, 2024.
The cost to attend the 2024 HPLA Program has been underwritten by the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation for Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) members. A program fee of $395 will be charged for non-MPA members.

What are the criteria?
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to participate in HPLA, a health professional must:
- Be in a healthcare administrative or clinical leadership position currently or be interested in pursuing a career in a healthcare leadership position.
- Attend all Academy webinars, participate in breakout groups, complete assigned home study, complete and attend ACE, February 24, 2024.
- Devote at least 3-6 hours per month to prepare for and participate in Academy activities.
Evaluation Criteria
HPLA applications will be evaluated and selected by MPF using the following criteria:
- Leadership interests, goals, and anticipated benefits
- Leadership responsibilities and/or healthcare leadership or career interests
- Expectations of the Academy and how knowledge and skills will be applied
- Past or current involvement in student, professional or community affiliations or organizations
- Compatibility or suitability with Leadership Academy learning objectives and curriculum
- Letter of interest (please submit with your application along with responses to the seven application questions)
- “Optional” Letter of Recommendation
Note: Membership in a professional organization is not a requirement for selection, but it is preferred.
